Get the Most Out of the Burger King Scholarship Program

The Burger King Scholarship may not be as well known as some of the more popular scholarship programs available but is one that college students should consider. The Burger King Scholarship has been given away to over 11,000 students throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, granting over $320,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors.

The Burger King Scholarship program is dedicated to the memory of James McLamore, co-founder of the Burger King restaurant chain. By the end of the 2007 award year, this foundation will have awarded more than 10.5 million dollars to eligible students. In order to qualify for this money, students must have worked part-time (at least15 hours weekly) for at least 40 weeks a year, and must have maintained at least a 2.5 grade point average while being employed. Although students are not required to earn their work experience at a Burger King restaurant, employees of the chain are eligible to apply for the award money. Any student to whom the bk scholarship is awarded must be planning to enroll in a post-secondary educational program the fall after his or her high school graduation.

The Burger King Scholarship must be used for educational expenses, such as tuition or required fees and books, and must be used during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Awards are given without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability, or national origin. Administrative support for the BURGER KINGĀ® Scholars Program is provided by Scholarship Program Administrators, Inc.
